Eat Your Vegetables

Still reading Oswald Chambers... someday I'll switch to another devo...
Today, something interesting: "Prayer is not a normal part of the life of the natural man. We hear it said that a person’s life will suffer if he doesn’t pray, but I question that. What will suffer is the life of the Son of God in him, which is nourished not by food, but by prayer."
Interesting way to put it. I had to get up and dwell on that for about 20 min. Obviously prayer is important - Jesus prayed for hours each day - so he was 'feeding' his spirit through prayer? One scripture comes to mind... Jesus said we don't "live by bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." (Matt 4:4; Deut 8:3) So as we commune with God, we feed our spiritual self, just as food nourishes our physical self. OK... that makes sense. It may be too simple, though. Too simple and difficult for us in our busy wireless society to take some time each day and get unplugged to enjoy some delicious prayer.
"When a person is born again from above, the life of the Son of God is born in him, and he can either starve or nourish that life. Prayer is the way that the life of God in us is nourished. Our common ideas regarding prayer are not found in the New Testament. We look upon prayer simply as a means of getting things for ourselves, but the biblical purpose of prayer is that we may get to know God Himself." (My Utmost) Mmm, mmm, good!?!
